We are very proud of the materials that we have been able to create for our members!
Our goal has been to create curriculum that is meaningful and helpful in the Public Speaking classroom and the competitive forensic community.
These are wonderful materials that you can adapt from this website. May you have many successes this year and enjoy your membership in the California High School Speech Association!
2014 CHSSA Curriculum Committee Survey
At this year’s State Tournament, the CHSSA Curriculum Committee supplied coaches with a survey in hopes of narrowing down the potential Curriculum projects slated for 2014-2015. 62 CHSSA coaches who attended the State Tournament participated in the survey. Coaches were allotted 2 votes each, and these were the results:
Curriculum Committee Project Suggestions
Revise Speaking and Listening Across the Curriculum with lesson plans and rubrics that dovetail Common Core standards
Provide Common Core in-service training and materials by our experts for your school or your English Dept. with speaking and listening ideas, lesson plans, and rubrics
Nine-week speech course with Common Core lessons and rubrics
Judges training DVD for your league tournaments
Guidelines to use debate, specifically, in the classroom
In addition to project suggestions, the Curriculum Committee asked 3 “Yes” or “No” preference questions. The results were:
Somewhat (#3 only)
Would you support the use of turnitin.com for original speeches for the State Championship?
Would you prefer a physical copy of the Parli DVD (a “no” indicates that you prefer accessing the material online only)?
Were pre-state tournament communications helpful, accessible, and timely?
The Curriculum Committee will consider these results in determining the focus of our upcoming projects.
